How to create/write content when the idea of writing itself feels like dread

Here are the physical tools you most likely already own that you can use to unlock that fear/hate of writing and the dreaded "where do I start" or "what do I write"

Disclaimer

I know plenty of people that thoroughly enjoy writing, and kudos to you (you little writer you), this post is for those of us that dread the part where we have to sit down and get started on any type of writing assignment.

To be honest I really hate writing. I do love copy writing on the fly with my clients (writing for others to help sell their stuff) but I'm also just like most of my clients when it comes to the idea of writing for my website or emails. If I’m being really really honest, I feel sometimes like I have no business writing, I dropped out of high school when I was 16 years old, so I have this little hangup about how I shouldn’t be writing. Never mind that I have worked in advertising for years, am the President of an organization and consistently write copy that sells with my clients. We all have our little hangups and this is one that I have had to work hard to beat. And THIS is how I did. I'm giving you the tool that unlocks the writer in me over and over again and above all helps me knock content projects out quickly so I can move on to other things.

Quick tricks to create content fast/effectively

This trick has helped me write over and over at times where I've found myself sitting in front of a computer screen with a cursor blinking.

Here are the three things I combine WALKING, TALKING, DOCUMENTING.

I combine going on walks (where my brain feels clear and I can think creatively) and using the Google Doc app in my phone. Walking and talking into my phone using the talk to text is the quickest way for me to get information out of my head and onto paper. I can worry less about being a perfect writer and think more about what I need to say.

Here's how I do it

Step 1: Go to the Google Doc App on your phone

Step 2: Open the document and push the talk button. This is best when I use headphones.

Step 3: Tell your phone what you gotta say.

BONUS .. If you aren't into walking around the neighborhood talking to yourself like a crazy person, you can simple use the google doc feature on your computer

Do it like this

Here are some of the ways that I use my talk to text app to help me get out of a writing funk.
  • Creating email sequences

  • Writing blogs

  • Developing web copy

  • Writing a class I plan to teach

  • Developing copy for a sales page on my website

  • Talking out how I want to sell a new product or service

Try it out

I want you to see that there are lots of free awesome tools out there that can help unlock the stickiness of whatever you’re in. I want to invite you to be a problem solver and if you find yourself thinking "I can’t do this" or "this is hard", ask yourself "What do I need", "What could help me work better" and then seeing if there’s a tool out there that can support you.

I want to invite you to use this free tool this week on some area where you’re stuck in terms of writing for your business and let me know how it works for you.

Until next time,

Mindy

P.S. I wrote this blog on a 15 minute walk. I’ll go home. I’ll edit for five minutes. I’ll copy and paste it and find a coordinating picture, pick up some keywords to tag and boom 30 minutes later I'm done and I can move on with my day
